Is 3D Printing The Future of Cosplay?
If you don't know who Felicia Day is you need to watch The Guild, it was a tv show a couple years ago that went on forever. The show centers around an online guild who plays hours of MMORPG video games. The story focuses on Felicia Day's character, Codex, who tries to lead a normal life after one of her guild-mates, Warlock Zaboo, shows up at her doorstep. If you haven't watched The Guild on TBS or don't know what the Guild is all about don't worry the show is on Netflix and you can binge watch it for the weekend. They only have 1 season currently on Netflix which is bound to change, it's such a good show!
After Felicia Day got a email from Melissa Ng saying that she loved Codex from the Guild and got so inspired from her she decide to create her company Lumecluster, which creates masks, jewelry and body armor, and at the end of the email it stated that she would be willing to make a mask or body armor for her. Our expressions are the same as Felicia Day expressions in the video, I mean who wouldn't get excited and want to get a fully customized body armor?
With a full body scan and some 200 plus hours worth of editing to create the full regalia of armor called the Dreamer Regalia, it was finished and 3D printed thanks to Shapeways. Shapeways is one of the largest 3D printing companies in the world with tons of 3D printing material to choose from. Choosing the strong & flexible plastic material as the overall material for the project for it's massive printable size and spending countless hours of post detailing to get it camera ready, it was finally done and looked absolutely incredible.
This Dreamer Regalia is a one of kind 3D printed cosplay outfit that deserves first place in any cosplay competition. For the future of cosplay with 3D printers, it'll be a long and dedicated process just to achieve one outfit or part of an outfit but it's going to look incredible when it's finished and ready to show off. If you don't believe us that 3D printers won't have a future in cosplay then don't look in our cosplay category down below -hint, hint- but if you do believe 3D printers will have a future in cosplay then check out the cosplay link in the category section down below you won't be sorry.
You can check out the video of how it all came together on the Geek and Sundry article on their website and on Lumecluster's website
