The Legend of Zelda

Celebrating it's 30 anniversary in Japan this year and it's 30 anniversary in United States next year, The Legend of Zelda video game is an icon video game that almost everyone has heard of. With over 20 video games it's hard not to have a favorite one. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is the newly adapted game that is Nintendo's boldest and biggest Legend of Zelda game in years and it's gearing up for a huge release next year! If you haven't seen the official game trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, then look no further. It's an amazing game trailer that makes you want to buy the game right now and start playing as Link and have tons of fun with the game itself but unfortunately you will have to wait till next year to get the game when it is released worldwide. You know you don't have to wait to have fun, you can have some fun with some of the 3D printed version of some of the most iconic items from the last 30 years of playing The Legend of Zelda.

The most iconic item in all The Legend of Zelda games is the Master Sword and the game that people mostly associate the Master Sword with is everyone's favorite so far and ours as well is The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. The Master Sword is imbued with the power to vanquish evil and in many games, it is said to be the only sword capable of defeating the malevolent Ganon or Ganondorf. Only the Hero of Time can wield the Master Sword but luckily our life isn't a video game and you don't have to risk life and death and 7 years to get the Master Sword.

With a weekend worth of 3D printing, painting and getting it ready for battle you too can have the 3D printed version of the Master Sword. If you follow Lloyd Roberts, the creator of the 3D printed Master Sword, on MyMiniFactory you can find the full 1.2 meter version of the Master Sword from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time video game on his user page and have fun 3D printing it this weekend.

Best known from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, the Master Sword isn't the only sword that Link gets to wield throughout the games. The wooden sword is the first sword that Link gets to start off his quest to save Hyrule. Thanks to Adafruit they have a tutorial on how to 3D print it and put the sword together. They used Bamboo fill filament which has recycled bamboo fibers in the filament and thanks to ColorFabb you too can 3D print out the wooden sword and start your adventures off right.
Now we know a wooden sword doesn't do much for defense against any of the evil characters or creatures in the Legend of Zelda video games so does Adafruit, that's why they followed up on the wooden sword to give you the legendary Hyrule shield, even though it's not the wooden shield to go with wooden sword it's still the Hyrule shield. This goes perfectly with the 3D printed Master Sword from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, it's a great piece to cosplay with and is sure to place you among with winners in any cosplay contests.
Now if only there was something else that we weren't missing from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time that could be 3D printed that could complete the cosplay outfit. If you are any true Legend of Zelda fans that know of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time then you know that we are talking about the Ocarina of Time. Now a re-occurring item in the The Legend of Zelda games, the Ocarina of Time is secretly handed down for generations by Hyrule's Royal Family.

The Ocarina of Time allows the user a variety of magical powers when used to play specific songs such as warping them to different timeline worlds, conjuring up storms and changing day to night or night to day. The best thing about the 3D printed Ocarina of Time is that as soon as the 3D print is done you don't have to wait to play it, just finish putting the ocarina together and start playing some songs. If you don't know all the songs or any by heart that's okay because thanks to Peregrine Studios on Shapeways they have close to 20 rings from various songs throughout the series in different sizes to accommodate the users and to make sure that you can play the song that you need to play.

Now that we have the "most important" 3D printed items established from the The Legend of Zelda series let's talk about some of the other 3D printed items from the series. The Hookshot is a real life-size version of the item modeled from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time video game, on the left, not to be mistaken for the 3D printed counter-part of the Clawshot which is from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, on the right.

The Hookshot is the easier of the two to 3D print from the picture but it will take a bit more skill to master this one. Being iconic from Ocarina of Time doesn't always mean easier to use so we would have to go ahead and suggest 3D printing the Clawshot. The Clawshot got a redesign when The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess came out which makes it a bit more difficult to 3D print but easier to use. You can find the .stl files needed to 3D print the Clawshot from Thingiverse here or you can a bit dangerous and 3D print two of them and have the Double Clawshot. We don't recommend testing them out we wouldn't want you to try to swing from section to section and fall.

With the 30th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda approaching at the beginning of next year and with the new release of the highly anticipated new The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild video game it would be no surprise to us that more 3D printed Legend of Zelda items will start to make an appearance. Even after The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild game gets release it would still be no surprise to us that someone would 3D printed some new item from the video game. It's such a great series to play and we can't wait till next year to see what other makers have 3D printed in the meantime.
